Sex and the City, sans Sex; or What Would Carrie Do?

Don't look for any sassy innuendo behind the byline.  I've been obsessed with the hit HBO show since my friend introduced (addicted?) me to it last year.  I've attempted to keep my lust for the show under control, but on my Christmas list was the proof--in magenta ink, "Sex and the City--The Complete Series" is underlined.  Twice.  And, lo and behold, here it sits in all it's opulent glory, a magenta suede album filled, cover to cover, with every episode of this reel Cosmo.  After indulging in five episodes today, I have decided to devote myself in a new year's resolution that Carrie would approve: after two years of obsessively trying (and failing) cloistered writing projects, I will begin this Blog Without Borders, where everything and anything that is running through my brain shall be splattered across a keyboard.  Ew.  Not literally.  Naturally, the first post is about this strange little habit I've picked up, and why this show is so completely engrossing for a whole generation of women.  Of course, there's the sex (and HBO apparently can show anything.)  But I overlook that.  I think it has something more to do with the girlfriends.  It is feasible that the girls of the show--sexy, adventurous Samantha; gorgeous, romantic Charlotte; and tough, realist Miranda--have become a stand in for true intimate friendships for women.  Haven't you looked at the show and just wished, for a second, that you had that kind of dirt to dish next gossip session?  For those of us who don't live in a major metropolis, has this show filled in the need for a life full of new flames, spontaneity, and hot gossip.  I would pose, after carefully conducted research....well, honestly, more like hypothesizing....that the need for juicy gossip is innate not only in women, but in all human beings.  So, this post has come full circle.  The official reason to have a blog, after all, is to tell people about your life.  What's more gossipy, Sex and the City than that?  However, in true Carrie fashion, I plan on rising above this self obsessed drivel that you might find in other blogs.  We'll be discussing.....whatever, in truly artful, insightful fashion.  Hold on, kids.  It's gonna be a bumpy night.
